The Ski pass gives you full access to over 250 lifts connecting 28 areas and towns, forming the second largest ski area in Europe.
Sono and I know the resort very well; Sono _aka DJ Sharoop _grew up in St Johann, and I've been skiing there every year since I was 21. We can both help with route planning and piste advice and as usual we have a terrific daily apres-ski DJ line-up playing you a blizzard of magnificent House Music while the sun sets slowly over the snowy mountain peaks!
St. Johann im Pongau is very easy to get to
Fly to Salzburg.
No.2 Bus to the Station (haubtbahnhof) costs about €5 or take a Taxi.
The train to St. Johann im Pongau takes about an hour and costs about €20. It's a VERY pretty journey.
Taxi from the station to the hotel takes about 15 minutes. We've negotiated a deal with one of the local taxi firms (we'll let you know the contact details nearer the time).
If there are a few of you together you could also get a minibus taxi all the way from the airport. I think it's about €160.

Accommodation
The Hotel Stern
Beautifully located, half way up the mountain with spectacular views along the valley and over the rooftops of the town far below. We can ski-in and ski-out and once the lifts are closed we pretty much have the whole place to ourselves.
The Alpendorf Akivhotel
Located 50m from the Gondola lift at the bottom of the hill.
It's owned by the same family as The Stern and even though it's a little bit more expensive it's also a bit more delux and has a REALLY nice spa and indoor pool.
The Sundown Sessions take place on the terrace at The Stern, however The Alpendorf is only a 5 minute cab ride down the mountain.

Ski Passes

Actually, I don't usually book my own pass in advance. I prefer the flexibility of buying them daily. Maybe I want a SPA day somewhere in the mix!
Lessons & Guiding
Ski coaching, mountain guiding & private lessons
Wolfgang Pfeifhofer is an old friend, one of our original ski buddies from way back when. Not only is he one the best skiers I've ever seen, he now also runs a pool of other very highly qualified and experienced mountain guides and ski coaches.
These guys are the best you can get.
Wolfgang has agreed a great deal for us:
A two hour private lesson would normally be €199 – HoH price is €179
A four hour private lesson would normally be €399 – HoH price is €350
(four hours is a full day with a break for lunch)
If an additional person wants to join the lesson, it's an extra €20 (maximum 4 people)
It's important that if two or three people take a lesson they should be of roughly the same standard. People who have never skied before shouldn't book a lesson with experienced people.

If you're new to ski-ing, I'd recommend a full day's coaching to start with and follow up with one or more two hour sessions later in the week.
The beginner and practice slopes are located close to the Gondola station at the very top of the mountain – so great views and the best snow. If your partner or friends are off doing their own thing, it's easy for them to liaise with you and hook up for lunch or gluwien breaks.
