Sol Kara

Arriving in Britain as a child refugee from Uganda Sol grew up through a special time in the history of our country. Emerging from the austerity years we were becoming a multi cultural melting pot of ideas and influences that we celebrated on the dance floors of our youth. His early years were in Manchester where his love of music led him to organize parties through 1989-91 in places like the Cheshire Cat in Sheffield, eventually moving down to London around 1990. A great DJ and producer, wonderfully generous host and fabulous cook (especially his mung-bean curry!), Sol's gentle soul, anarchic humour and passionate embrace of the underground music scene was loved and admired by a hugely diverse group of friends and lovers and family. He was a key figure in the Ibiza music scene facilitating an amazing array of parties & clubs (especially Sankeys and Aura) and inspiring & supporting a host of talented performers

Bless you Brother x

(This is actually a prayer by St. Francis of Assisi but I thought Sol might appreciate the slightly subversive idea of making it multi-cultural by writing it in Arabic) - Translated it reads:

'Praised be You my Lord with all Your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun,
Who is the day through whom You give us light.
And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour,
Of You Most High, he bears the likeness'
